Orem

Orem Lemon Law protects Utah drivers from being stuck with unreliable or defective vehicles.

If your vehicle keeps breaking down despite multiple repair attempts, the manufacturer may be required to replace or repurchase it — typically at no cost to you.

Understanding Orem Lemon Law

The Orem Lemon Law provides powerful protection for Utah consumers who buy or lease new vehicles that fail to perform as promised. If your car continues to have recurring issues, you may be entitled to:

  • A replacement vehicle of comparable value
  • A full refund, including taxes, registration, and title fees
  • A cash settlement for inconvenience or reduced resale value
  • Attorney’s fees paid by the manufacturer if your claim is successful

You don’t pay any legal fees — the manufacturer covers them when you win your case.

What Vehicles Are Covered?

Orem Lemon Law applies to:

  • New and leased vehicles purchased or registered in Utah
  • Cars, trucks, SUVs, and vans used for personal or household purposes
  • Claims filed within two years from delivery or within the manufacturer’s warranty period
  • Vehicles with 4+ failed repair attempts or 30+ days out of service for the same problem
  • Certain small business vehicles that meet Utah’s Lemon Law standards

Not Covered: Used “as-is” vehicles, off-road or recreational vehicles, or those significantly altered after purchase.

Do I Qualify for an Orem Lemon Law Claim?

You may qualify if:

  • The defect affects your vehicle’s use, safety, or value
  • The dealer or manufacturer made 4 or more unsuccessful repair attempts
  • The vehicle has been out of service for 30 or more total days
  • The problem appeared within the manufacturer’s warranty or two years of ownership

Common Defects Under Orem Lemon Law

Common issues that may qualify under Utah Lemon Law include:

  • Engine stalling, overheating, or failure to start
  • Transmission slipping or rough shifting
  • Steering or braking problems
  • Electrical system malfunctions or dashboard warning lights
  • Faulty air conditioning or heating systems
  • Persistent leaks, noises, or vibration issues

If your car continues to have these problems after multiple repairs, it may qualify as a lemon under Utah law.

Orem Lemon Law and Used Cars

Although Utah’s Lemon Law mainly covers new vehicles, used car buyers may still be protected under the Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act or dealer warranty laws if:

  • The vehicle came with a written warranty or service contract
  • The defect appeared during that warranty coverage period
  • The dealer or manufacturer failed to fix the issue after reasonable attempts
